Arts University Bournemouth

The Arts University Bournemouth grew from the Bournemouth Municipal College of Art which was the first Government grant funded school in the United Kingdom. It became the Arts Institute Bournemouth and in 20o9, The Arts University Bournemouth. It is now located on a purpose built campus at Wallisdown in Poole and has grown in reputation, strength and student numbers under the direction of the present Principal and Vice Chancellor Professor Stuart Bartholomew.

TheGallery was established in 1998 winning national and international recognition and providing a major contemporary visual and performing arts source for the University and the wider community in the south west.

In March 2016, the newly commissioned Drawing Studio, designed by Professor Sir Peter Cook, an alumnus of the Bournemouth Municipal College of Art was opened by the late Zaha Hadid.

The building celebrates light and provides a space to enable drawing as a focused creative activity. This building has been recognised in regional and national awards of the Royal Institute of Architects and has been nominated for the World Architectural Federation Award.
